There were not so much autumn tones to be seen in Helsinki last weekend. Trees have just started to change the colours of their leaves and there are fallen leaves on the streets but this is still far away from the magnificent autumn colours you can see up north at the moment.

Katajanokka

Joka tapauksessa tässä pieni kurkistus merellisen Helsingin syyskuun loppuun Pieni Lintu -blogin makrokuvahaasteeseen. Ensi viikolla jaan lokakuisia kuvia maaseutuhuvilaltamme.

However, here's a small peak at the seaside Helsinki in the end of September for the MakroTex Challenge of Pieni Lintu blog. Next week I will be sharing October pictures from our country villa.

  5. Ihanat on syksyn värit ulkona. Meillä on koristearonia-aita kuin tulessa, punakeltaista sävyä joka puolella.

  7. Stunning colours and beautiful photos - I think you are a little ahead of us with Autumn, our trees haven't changed colour yet but I'm looking forward to it when they do!

  8. Beautiful captures, Teresa:) I meant 2 boys -grandsons - in my family. So, this means you have been studying for your doctorate while you had children, like I did. Not easy to do! Do you like your city home? There are so many more people around in Austin than living in the forest. But up till now, I like it! What makes your country home a villa? In Holland it means that it is free standing. Actually don't know what it means here in the USA, for most houses in the suburbs are free standing (even if it's is just the width of a person!, lol).

    1. Thank you, Jesh. Yes, I already had a family before embarking on my doctoral studies. That's why it also took so long for me to finally finish my PhD. We live currently in a rented flat which is not very much to my liking but it is ok and big enough for the time being. It is in the area we wanted to stay so that was the biggest reason why we moved there. Our country home is a relatively big house, built in the 1930s, and in Finland, in the 19th century richer families living in cities used to move to big houses outside the city, in the countryside, for the summer, and these big houses were called villas. That's why we call our second home a villa because it is not a cottage.
